Moving from the United States to Dubai: tax you would stop paying
In the United States, a gross salary of USD 98,026 a year — the equivalent of AED 30,000 a month — leaves USD 77,791 after income tax and employee contributions (20.6% deducted; tax year 2026). In Dubai you keep the full AED 360,000, which is AED 74,312 more a year.
US citizens and green-card holders are taxed by the United States on worldwide income even when they live in Dubai: moving does NOT remove US federal income tax.
Estimate from official rates, not tax advice: it only applies if you really stop being tax resident in your country.

Before you leave the United States
- US citizens and green-card holders are taxed by the United States on worldwide income even when they live in Dubai: moving does NOT remove US federal income tax.
- The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (Form 2555) can exclude up to $132,900 of foreign earnings for 2026 if you meet the bona fide residence or physical presence test; income above it stays taxable. The UAE has no income tax, so there is no foreign tax to credit.
- For a US citizen or resident the Dubai column below (0% tax) is therefore an upper bound, not your result.
- Whether Social Security and Medicare still apply abroad depends on your employer and on totalization agreements; this was not verified for the UAE.
