How the dates are set

The Islamic holiday dates depend on moon sighting. These Gregorian estimates use the Umm al-Qura calendar and may differ by a day.

Gregorian New Year: 1 January.
Eid Al Fitr: 1–3 Shawwal; Ramadan day 30 is also a holiday if Ramadan lasts 30 days.
Arafah Day: 9 Dhu al-Hijjah.
Eid Al Adha: 10–12 Dhu al-Hijjah.
Hijri New Year: 1 Muharram.
Prophet Mohammed's birthday: 12 Rabi' al-Awwal.
National Day: 2 and 3 December.

For Eid Al Fitr, the estimate starts the day after the calculated 29th day of Ramadan and covers three days. If Ramadan lasts 30 days, it extends by one day, to four days in total. The estimated Ramadan 29 dates are Wed, 18 Mar 2026 and Mon, 8 Mar 2027.

Under Article 3 of Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, as cited by u.ae, a holiday that falls on a weekend or on another public holiday is not moved to a different day.

The estimates use the Umm al-Qura calendar, calculated once on 13 October 2026 and saved with the page.

Public and private sector

u.ae gives the same holiday list for both sectors. MOHRE announces the exact days for the private sector; FAHR for federal government employees.

Holidays that ended before the Dubai date shown above are folded under “Already passed”, with a “Passed” label. A past Islamic date remains an estimate here; follow the MOHRE and FAHR links for the days that were announced.

Working on a public holiday (Article 28)

Article 28 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 gives workers covered by this law fully paid days off for the public holidays set by the Cabinet.

If you must work on a public holiday, your employer must give you another day off for each holiday day worked, or pay your normal wage for that day plus at least 50% of your basic wage for that day.
